NEUROMUSCULAR CONDITIONS

Introduction

The therapists at First Steps have experience working with a wide range of chronic neuromuscular disorders including:

  • Stroke
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Multiple Sclerosis*
  • Guillian-barre Syndrome

Activity-based therapy methods have proven to be effective with several different conditions and we are always willing to work with new clients. First Steps exists to fill a gap in community-based health services for neuromuscular disorders and we will do our best to accommodate all of the conditions within that category.

Due to the diverse nature of neuromuscular disorders it is difficult to determine what your therapy will look like and what benefits you can expect to see without getting to know you and your ability level. To provide you with an appropriate answer would require an assessment conducted by a First Steps therapist.

After completing an assessment the First Steps therapists will be better able to tell you what to expect from therapy in terms of potential goals that can be achieved, amount of time required, types of exercises you will be doing etc.

If you are unsure if you are a candidate for our program or if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact us by email info@fswcregina.ca or by phone (306)522-3792. We would love to hear from you.

* Multiple sclerosis is a chronic progressive condition which changes the impact that exercise therapy can have.  Many of our MS client’s goal is to alleviate symptoms and possibly slow down muscle deterioration, although in some cases functional improvements have been seen.  Please contact us for further information.
